The concept of BELMONT LODGE was formed when it became apparent that there was a need to add a further house in the NW Greater London area to the existing two houses - one in Willesden, and the other in Edgware. As we are part of a national charity, we are also open to non-Jewish people. Five Jewish communities in the N.W.London region have combined their backing for a scheme to open a brand new Abbeyfield house in the area, which provides very sheltered accommodation for older Jewish (and other) residents. These communities include: Northwood & Pinner Liberal Synagogue Kol Chai Hatch End Jewish Community Middlesex New Synagogue Radlett And Bushey Reform Synagogue Hertsmere Progressive Synagogue. During research for this project, it became apparent that there are more older couples needing very sheltered accommodation than ever before. It was decided to provide some two-roomed accommodation, complete with en-suite facilities, and more space than the usual "bedsit"-type accommodation normally provided by other very Sheltered accommodation. A suitable property was purchased in Bushey, Hertfordshire, (near to the local shops and public transport) and the BELMONT LODGE APPEAL was launched. Belmont Lodge - Bushey, Herts.
